Larian Confirms Divinity Original Sin 2 PS5 Announcement Is Imminent

by Salal Awan

Larian Studios has quietly but clearly confirmed that Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition is coming to PlayStation 5, following a brief exchange on X by the studio’s Head of Publishing, Michael Douse, who posts under the handle @Cromwelp. The confirmation comes after the game appeared within the PlayStation backend, prompting speculation that a formal announcement was imminent. Although the title has not yet been officially unveiled for current generation consoles, Douse’s comments strongly suggest that plans are already in motion.

Responding to a post from the PlayStation Game Size account that listed Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition as available for PS5, Douse wrote, “Hey we weren’t meant to announce that yet.” The remark, while lighthearted, effectively acknowledged the accuracy of the listing and indicated that the reveal occurred earlier than intended. Given the timing, attention has turned toward The Game Awards as a possible venue.

The PS5 version of the game has appeared in multiple places over the past year. It was rated by PEGI previously, adding credibility to reports that Larian is preparing native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions. Despite these signs, no formal announcement had been made until Douse’s public response.

During the same exchange, Douse also addressed recurring fan questions about the future of the Divinity series. When asked directly about Divinity Original Sin 3, he stated, “There aren’t currently any plans for a new Divinity Original Sin 3 game but once we are ready to show what we’ve been working on we will.” He later clarified his tone in follow-up replies, adding humor while firmly shutting down speculation about unannounced projects. In response to a joke about a potential simulator title, he said, “I can confirm we aren’t working on a toilet simulator at this moment.”

Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition originally launched in 2018 as an enhanced version of Larian’s critically acclaimed role-playing game. The Definitive Edition introduced extensive refinements, including balance changes, narrative improvements, and a reworked final act. The game has since expanded to multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch and iPad, making a PS5 release a logical next step. With backend listings now acknowledged by Larian leadership, the remaining question is not whether the announcement will happen, but when.
