LEGO SEGA Genesis Controller Gift-With-Purchase Reportedly Leaked

by Ali Haider

A new LEGO gift-with-purchase (GWP) set appears to have leaked online, giving fans their first look at a buildable replica of the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive controller. Known as set 40769, the model is said to be available beginning September 8 with LEGO Store purchases of 130 euros or more.

Images circulating online, shared by LEGO news sources and collectors, show the product packaging. The box highlights the classic Genesis controller design, paired with Sonic the Hedgehog branding. Details on the packaging list the set at 260 pieces and part of LEGO’s 18+ collector line. The front also displays both LEGO and SEGA logos, further connecting the set to the long-running collaboration between the two companies.

While LEGO has not yet issued an official announcement, the leak is consistent with the company’s history of retro gaming promotions. In the past, LEGO has released similar gift sets, including a Game Boy replica designed for its Super Mario product line. These collectible items are typically marketed toward adult fans, celebrating classic hardware through brick-built recreations.

The leaked Genesis controller set is expected to follow that pattern, offering a near life-sized design aimed at both LEGO enthusiasts and video game collectors. Given the nature of past promotions, an official reveal will likely arrive in the coming weeks, confirming availability and regional purchase requirements.

For now, fans of both LEGO and SEGA can anticipate the opportunity to add a piece of gaming history to their collections — provided they meet the spending threshold when the promotion begins.
