Life is Strange: Reunion ESRB Rating Reveals Mature Themes and Gameplay

by Ali Haider

Life is Strange: Reunion has been officially rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, revealing new information about its gameplay structure, narrative focus, and mature content. The title has received an M for Mature 17+ rating due to Mild Violence, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, and Use of Drugs. The game is listed for release on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms.

According to the ESRB rating summary, Life is Strange: Reunion is an adventure game in which players follow the story of two characters attempting to prevent a tragic event at a college campus. Players travel through time while investigating the campus and the surrounding town in order to uncover the cause of the looming disaster. Throughout the experience, players can interact with characters, solve puzzles, and make dialogue and action choices that influence how the story unfolds.

The rating summary indicates that some player choices lead to violent situations. Examples include characters being caught in a bomb explosion and a woman being shot off-screen. While violence is not described as graphic, its presence contributes to the Mature classification.

The ESRB also outlines several types of adult-oriented dialogue and scenarios present in the game. The summary states that the game contains references to suggestive material, including lines such as, “[H]is girlfriend thought this was an orgy,” “I was on a Tinder date…I got a slinky and second base…,” and “This bartender wants to show me his python…I think he also wants to bang.” One brief sequence depicts a character making a masturbatory hand gesture.

Drug-related content is also referenced. The ESRB notes a sequence in which a character hallucinates after drinking a beverage laced with psychedelics, accompanied by blurry screen effects. Dialogue and text also include references to drugs, such as “the stoner,” “it’s definitely drugs,” and “tripping balls.” Strong language is present as well, with the word “f**k” heard during gameplay.

Life is Strange: Reunion is a narrative adventure developed by Deck Nine Games and published by Square Enix. It serves as a direct sequel to 2024’s Life is Strange: Double Exposure and is positioned as the definitive conclusion to the “Max and Chloe saga.” The game features the return of Chloe Price, who appears at Caledon University following the timeline-merging events of the previous installment.

For the first time in the series, players control both Max Caulfield and Chloe Price. Max uses her signature Rewind ability, while Chloe employs her “Backtalk” mechanic to navigate a supernatural mystery centered around a catastrophic fire threatening the campus. Unlike earlier entries, Life is Strange: Reunion will not be released episodically. Instead, the full game is scheduled for a worldwide launch on March 26, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
