The demo for Little Nightmares 3 has gone live across all major platforms, giving players an early look at how the upcoming horror platformer runs on different hardware. Early comparisons between Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5 show clear distinctions in both resolution and performance, with Sony’s console leading in overall visual quality.
On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, the game offers two display modes. Players can choose between a Quality mode, which boosts resolution but locks the frame rate at 30fps, and a Performance mode, which prioritizes a smoother 60fps while keeping most visual settings consistent. However, the Switch 2 does not provide this choice, offering only a single mode capped at 30fps. This limitation makes it the only next-generation platform without the option for higher frame rates.
The graphical differences are also noticeable. The PlayStation 5 version features more refined shadows, improved lighting, and stronger post-processing effects, delivering the most polished experience overall. The Xbox Series S comes close, though some compromises in effects and clarity are present compared to PS5. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 version shows the heaviest reductions, with cutbacks in textures, shadows, lighting, post-processing, and even geometry detail in certain assets. These downgrades, combined with the 30fps cap, make it the least technically advanced of the three.
Despite these discrepancies, the game maintains a consistent artistic style across platforms, retaining the moody atmosphere and unsettling tone that define the series. However, the lack of meaningful benefit from Quality mode on PlayStation and Xbox has raised some questions about its necessity. With identical graphical settings and only a resolution increase to justify its 30fps lock, Performance mode seems like the more practical choice for most players.
Developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Little Nightmares 3 continues the haunting journey through The Nowhere with two new child protagonists, Low and Alone. The full release is scheduled for October 10, 2025, across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
