Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition Gets Free Upgrade, But Not on Switch

by Ali Haider

Bandai Namco has officially detailed the release plan for Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition, confirming that the upgraded version of the acclaimed 2017 horror platformer will launch on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, a key point of clarification is that this Enhanced Edition will not be made available on the original Nintendo Switch, and the free upgrade offer will not apply to Switch owners.

According to a newly published FAQ, early access to the Enhanced Edition is included as a bonus for those who pre-order the digital version of Little Nightmares III—but only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players who pre-order on PS4 or Xbox One will receive entitlement to the enhanced version, but access is restricted until they upgrade to the respective next-generation consoles. In contrast, Nintendo platforms do not support early access, and Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition is entirely unavailable on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 until the game’s full release date.

This initiative is part of Bandai Namco’s effort to modernize the original game with several technical upgrades and quality-of-life improvements. The Enhanced Edition features significant visual enhancements, including RTX reflections, improved water and lighting effects, and added particle systems. Performance has also been optimized, with the game now running in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Further improvements include more frequent checkpoints, tutorial additions, and reduced loading times.

Players who already own the digital version of Little Nightmares (2017) on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC will receive the Enhanced Edition as a free upgrade upon its official release. However, the same offer does not apply to owners of the game on the original Nintendo Switch. Due to technical constraints, the Enhanced Edition is being treated as a separate purchase on the Nintendo Switch 2. It is not backward compatible with the original Switch hardware.

While the early access version includes only the Standard Edition of the game, the full launch in October will also see the release of a Complete Edition, which incorporates all three DLC expansions in upgraded form. Players who already own the DLCs will receive the enhanced versions for free, while others will have the option to purchase them separately. It’s important to note that masks that were previously sold as DLC are now integrated directly into the base game.

According to Bandai Namco, the decision to offer early access and free upgrades stems from a desire to honor the franchise’s longtime supporters while welcoming newcomers ahead of Little Nightmares III. The updated experience is designed to serve as both a nostalgic return and a fitting introduction to the haunting world of Little Nightmares, now refreshed for modern platforms.
