Lollipop Chainsaw Repop ESRB Rating Highlights Violence and Sexual Content

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has released its rating summary for the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw Repop, shedding light on the level of violence, sexual content, and strong language players can expect from this remastered action game. Set to be released on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series consoles, the game has been rated “Mature” due to its graphic content and adult themes.

Lollipop Chainsaw Repop places players in the shoes of Juliet Starling, a cheerleader who takes on the role of a zombie hunter as she embarks on a quest to uncover the cause of a widespread zombie outbreak. The gameplay involves frenetic melee combat where players wield chainsaws, explosive rounds, and execute special attacks, such as cheerleading routines and mowing down zombies with a crop harvester. The combat is characterized by exaggerated blood splashes, frequent dismemberment, and decapitation, often highlighted by slow-motion effects and close-up camera angles, amplifying the game’s over-the-top violence.

The ESRB rating summary also notes that cutscenes within the game are no less intense. They include scenes where a zombie boss shoots himself in the head, characters being sliced in half by chainsaws, and a slow-motion sequence where Juliet punts a decapitated head. These graphic depictions contribute significantly to the game’s “Blood and Gore” and “Intense Violence” content descriptors.

In addition to its violent content, Lollipop Chainsaw Repop is replete with sexual themes and crude humor. The dialogue includes several explicit jokes and references, such as one character mentioning “backdoor sex with over three hundred sailors” and another regretting participation in explicit videos. The game does not shy away from adult language either, with words like “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “c*cksucker” appearing throughout the dialogue.

Moreover, the game alludes to drug use in various sequences, with references to “eight-foot piles of cocaine” and characters described as “psilocybin-munching morons.” These elements of drug reference, combined with the sexual content and strong language, contribute to the game’s mature rating, ensuring it is intended for an adult audience.
