CI Games and Hexworks latest action role-playing game, Lords of the Fallen, is now available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, and if you’re on the fence about which version to pick up, read ahead.
Lords of the Fallen offers 2 display modes across PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, namely Quality and Performance, with equivalent graphical settings across both the PS5 and Xbox Series X in both modes. Switching from Quality to Performance mode on either console reduces the shadow resolution and LOD on distant objects, such as buildings and trees. Compared to the corresponding mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X, the Xbox Series S version exhibits lower quality settings in some areas.
In terms of image quality, Lords of the Fallen runs at a resolution of 1440p in Quality mode on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X, with dynamic resolution scaling possibly in effect. In Performance mode, the game operates at a resolution of 1080p on both consoles. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S version operates at a resolution of 1080p in Quality mode and 720p in Performance mode.
With regards to performance, Lords of the Fallen targets and a frame rate of 30 fps on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S in Quality mode and largely maintains it. There are some minor dips in frame rate during taxing instances, however. In Performance mode, the game targets a frame rate of 60 fps across all 3 consoles. On both PS5 and Series X, the frame rate tends to hover in the 50s, and can even dip into the 40s during taxing situations. The Series X does maintain a lead over the PS5 version during these instances, however. Meanwhile, the frame rate on Series X is a bit more unstable than the other two versions, and there are dips into the mid to low 40s during taxing situations.
All in all, the Xbox Series X version of the game running in Performance mode delivers the best possible experience on consoles, followed by the PS5 version.
