Mafia The Old Country Sells Over 800K Units in First Four Days, PS5 Leads With Nearly Half of All Sales

Mafia The Old Country has made a strong debut, with early analyst estimates placing sales at around 800,000 units across all platforms in its first four days. Released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, the game has shown broad cross-platform appeal, though sales data points to a clear leader. PlayStation 5 accounts for roughly 48 percent of all units sold, while Steam holds about one-third, placing it ahead of Xbox in second place.

Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, Mafia The Old Country launched worldwide on August 8, 2025. Serving as a prequel to the long-running franchise, the game is set in early 1900s Sicily, Italy. The story follows Enzo Favara, a young carusu drawn into the rise and eventual fall of the Torrisi crime family. With a focus on a smaller-scale, linear narrative and cinematic storytelling, Hangar 13 aimed to recapture the essence of the earlier games while broadening the series’ historical scope.

Early reception from players has been largely positive. Steam data shows an average playtime of 8.8 hours among early adopters, with 72.9 percent of reviews marked as positive. Critics have praised the engaging narrative, authentic character work, and detailed recreation of early 20th-century Sicily. However, some noted that the gameplay mechanics feel dated, arguing that while the storytelling shines, the core gameplay could have used more modernization.

The PlayStation 5’s sales lead may reflect its strong audience for story-driven single-player titles, while Steam’s share shows that PC players remain an important part of the Mafia fanbase, likely drawn by modding opportunities and customization options.

As the fourth mainline entry and fifth overall in the series since its 2002 debut, Mafia The Old Country’s early sales suggest that the decision to focus on a character-driven crime drama in a historical setting has resonated with both longtime fans and newcomers. With ongoing support and potential post-launch content, the game appears well-positioned to maintain its momentum beyond the opening week.
