Skate Story has been confirmed as a major new addition to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog for December 2025, launching on December 8 as a day-one release for PS5. The announcement highlights the arrival of Sam Eng’s surreal skateboarding adventure, which mixes action sports gameplay with an unusual, story-driven trip through the underworld.
The game puts players in the shoes of a skateboarding demon made of glass, navigating a bizarre world filled with cosmic pain, giant stone heads, and various supernatural beings. The protagonist is driven by hunger and a lack of sleep, all connected to the Moon’s overpowering light. The demon’s quest to consume the Moon begins after receiving a skateboard from the Devil, a bargain that forms the basis of the entire story. Early gameplay sections teach players the basics before opening up into larger areas that offer both wide-open spaces and tight, high-speed lanes full of dangers and goals.
Skate Story features a huge array of tricks, slowly moving players toward more complex mechanics. Simple moves like power slides and ollies soon turn into combinations like Pop Shuvits, Heelflips, and other advanced stunts. Boss fights require players to use a variety of moves to build up combo chains, as the damage you deal depends on your performance and timing. The design encourages both creativity and precision, and one encounter mentioned in the report includes a dynamic chase sequence that requires pulling off tricks while avoiding obstacles and maintaining speed.
The game also features varied missions based on strange requests from characters in the underworld. Tasks range from grinding across certain surfaces to chasing animated objects like the Devil’s clothes. Interactions with creatures such as floating skulls, giant frogs, and a talking trash bag all add to the game’s unconventional feel. These encounters reinforce the title’s unique mix of humor, difficulty, and surreal worldbuilding.
Players can go back between chapters to a soul space hub, accompanied by Rabbie the rabbit. This area is used for skateboard customization and progression, where in-game currency earned from stunts can buy cosmetic changes like wheels and stickers. Small details in the environment, such as the shattered remains of failed attempts and visible wear on the skateboard, give the experience more texture. The DualSense controller’s light bar and a shifting soundtrack help complete the immersive presentation.
Skate Story will be available to all PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers on December 8, giving them access to its distinct mix of skateboarding mechanics and narrative exploration as part of the monthly Game Catalog lineup.
