The opening cinematic for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, has apparently been leaked.
An official release date for Marathon has yet to be confirmed, but someone has already managed to get a hold of the the game’s opening cinematic and upload it to video hosting site Steamable (via Reset Era member Bishop89). The intro sequence sets the narrative tone for the extraction shooter, revealing that most colonists from the UESC Marathon, a colony vessel built using materials from Mars’s moon Deimos, have gone missing.

The surviving UESC Marathon colonist have split into competing groups that scavenge what’s left of the colony for essential resources. These groups employ Runners, individuals who have replaced their human bodies with advanced cybernetic ones, to infiltrate dangerous areas, battle rival Runners and alien adversaries, and recover valuable artifacts, information, and materials.
Last month, known Destiny insider Deakstiny shared details on Marathon’s price, editions, season pass, and weapons. According to them, the game will feature 28 weapons at launch, including Assault Rifles, LMGs, Precision Rifles, Pistols, Railguns, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, and SMGs. As for pricing, the Standard Edition of Marathon will allegedly retail for 39.99 US Dollars, while the Deluxe Edition will sell for 59.99 US Dollars. The insider described the game’s pricing as “pretty standard,” comparing it to that of Helldivers 2.
According to the insider, the Deluxe Edition will include around 30 US Dollars worth of “season pass tokens”. The season pass itself is said to be cosmetic-only and will likely cost around 10 US Dollars each season. They also claimed that every season will introduce a new Runner. In addition to cosmetic skins, pre-order bonuses for Marathon will allegedly include several crossover rewards referencing Destiny 2, such as a ship, Ghost, and Sparrow. Players who pre-order Marathon will also receive exclusive in-game cosmetics, including a pink pistol weapon skin, a charm, emblem, profile background, and decal.
Marathon is set for release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC.
