Marathon PS5 vs PS5 Pro Comparison Highlights Visual Improvements on Pro

A new technical analysis has compared Bungie’s Marathon across PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, revealing that both versions deliver a largely similar performance profile while the Pro model introduces a few visual upgrades.

According to the analysis, Marathon runs at a stable 60fps on both PS5 and PS5 Pro. Frame rate consistency appears comparable across the two systems, suggesting that performance parity was a priority for Bungie’s console release.

The standard PS5 version allows players to switch between CMAA and FSR for resolution scaling. The analysis notes that toggling between the two options does not result in any major visual or performance differences during gameplay.

On PS5 Pro, players gain access to an additional upscaling option through Sony’s PSSR technology. The analysis points out that PSSR is a strong choice on the upgraded console, particularly given the improvements introduced with version 2.0 across supported titles.

Beyond upscaling options, the PS5 Pro version also introduces a handful of visual enhancements. The analysis highlights improved ambient occlusion as well as higher resolution reflections compared to the standard PS5 version. These upgrades provide slightly richer environmental detail while maintaining the same overall performance target.

Marathon marks Bungie’s return to the franchise after more than a decade spent focusing on the Destiny series. Released on March 5, 2026, the new entry reimagines the original 1994 title as a PvPvE extraction shooter set on the colony of Tau Ceti IV. Players assume the role of cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners, competing to secure valuable artifacts while surviving encounters with other players and hostile forces.

The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC through Steam, with full cross-play and cross-save support across platforms.
