Bungie has released update 1.0.5.3 for Marathon, focusing on combat balance and key system fixes. The patch targets melee effectiveness, particularly the knife, while also significantly adjusting the Bubble Shield to better align with intended gameplay dynamics.
Beyond combat, the update resolves issues affecting the Vault and Armory, contracts, and zone mechanics. These changes aim to improve consistency during runs, while refining the overall balance between risk and reward in close quarters engagements.
Patch Notes
Combat
- Reduced knife maximum lunge distance by approximately 10 percent
- Reduced knife targeting angle by approximately 20 percent
Bubble Shield
- Increased rarity from Deluxe blue to Superior purple
- Reduced Bubble Shield health by 33 percent
- Removed vulnerability to Volt weapon damage
- Increased resistance to UESC damage by 17 percent
Runners
Stats
- Reduced Melee Damage stat bonus against enemy Runners
- Maximum bonus reduced from 100 percent to 50 percent
- No change to damage against non Runner targets
Thief
- Fixed Grapple related slide cancel movement exploits
Vault And Armory
- Fixed issue causing Vault and Armory to appear empty
- Fixed issue preventing Armory refreshes and free daily items from appearing consistently
Contracts
Traxus
- Removed “in a single run” requirement from Return On Investment 4 out of 5
Zones
Cryo Archive
- Fixed exfil countdown resetting when first crew member leaves the circle while others remain inside
