Mario Kart World Credits Spark Speculation Over Future DLC Characters From a Major Franchise

by Salal Awan

Speculation around potential downloadable content for Mario Kart World has intensified following a curious discovery in the game’s credits. Fans have noted the appearance of two voice actors in Mario Kart World’s credits who also feature in Donkey Kong Bananza, despite their characters not appearing in the base version of Mario Kart World.  Warning: Spoilers for two major characters in Donkey Kong Bananza ahead, so read at your own risk.

One of these characters, reportedly a significant plot figure in Donkey Kong Bananza, has stirred debate among players about future content updates. The voice actors in question, including Tsuguo Mogami, credited for voicing King K. Rool in Donkey Kong Bananza, have no clear character roles listed in Mario Kart World, leading to speculation about planned post-launch additions.

The theory gained momentum after comparisons between the credits of both games surfaced online. Fans pointed out that these characters, including King K. Rool and the heavily rumored Void Kong, voiced by Yuu Hayashi, might be slated for future downloadable content, especially given the limited Donkey Kong representation in the current Mario Kart World roster.

Nintendo has not made any official announcements about new character additions or potential DLC for Mario Kart World. The game recently surpassed the lifetime retail sales of Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U in Japan, reaching a total of 1,365,072 physical units sold. This achievement cements Mario Kart World as the seventh best-selling entry in the franchise within the Japanese market, a notable feat given its release on the new Nintendo Switch 2.

Whether the appearance of Donkey Kong Bananza voice actors in Mario Kart World’s credits signals planned DLC or is merely a production oversight remains to be seen. With Mario Kart World maintaining strong sales momentum and ongoing community interest, the possibility of expanded content featuring iconic characters from the broader Nintendo universe certainly seems plausible.
