Mario Kart World Update Adds New Change That Has Left Some Players Frustrated

by Ali Haider

Nintendo has released version 1.1.2 for Mario Kart World, bringing a small but notable change that has left many players divided. The update adjusts the “Random” course selection logic in wireless VS Races, which includes online matchmaking. Before this patch, selecting “Random” often allowed players to bypass the default “intermission” style tracks in favor of traditional 3-lap circuits. With the update, the Random function now pulls from the same set of three pre-selected routes visible to all players, most of which are intermission-style courses that include only a single lap following a connecting road. This reduces the likelihood of consistently accessing full-length 3-lap races in online play.

This change impacts the growing portion of the community that preferred using Random as a workaround to enjoy more complex and nostalgic tracks. While Random can still yield a traditional track, it now must compete with the current intermission options, significantly lowering its reliability. In addition to the adjustment in Random logic, Nintendo addressed several bugs, including a rare rate fluctuation display issue during Online Play and Knockout Tour, recovery delays in “Dino Dino Jungle,” and a problem near the finish line in “Boo Cinema” when transformed into Bullet Bill. These fixes enhance stability, though they have been overshadowed by the Random change, which many feel restricts the freedom to experience the full range of track designs online.
