Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Closed Beta Announced for PlayStation 5, Begins September 5

Arc System Works and PlayStation have announced that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will hold its first closed beta on PlayStation 5 from September 5 to 7, 2025. The news was shared on the main stage of EVO 2025 in Las Vegas, giving fans an official timeline to experience the game firsthand several months ahead of its planned launch in 2026.

The closed beta test will require a PlayStation Network account and an internet connection. Based on the time zone breakdown included in the official promotional image, access begins on September 5 in Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), with corresponding times on September 6 for players in Japan Standard Time (JST) and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). While no sign-up method has been detailed yet, further instructions are expected to follow via PlayStation platforms or the game’s official site.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag-based fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It marks the first major Marvel-branded fighting game since 2017’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The new project seeks to combine Arc System Works’ reputation for deep, competitive combat with the global appeal and character variety of Marvel’s vast universe.

At EVO 2025, additional details were revealed during a dedicated developer panel. The discussion included members from both Marvel Games and Arc System Works, who highlighted the design goals and gameplay philosophy behind the title. Michel Francisco, product development manager at Marvel Games, explained that the collaboration between Marvel and PlayStation aims to build a fighting experience that respects both the comic legacy and the precision-driven expectations of fighting game fans.

The game was originally revealed in June 2025, where the development team confirmed that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls would feature a distinct 4v4 team format. This system is said to focus on dynamic team dynamics and coordinated strategies rather than traditional solo matchups. Each player will manage a team of characters, swapping between them during combat to maintain pressure, exploit matchups, or create synergy through special assists and combo chains.

Arc System Works has promised that while the gameplay will carry the studio’s signature visual flair and depth, accessibility remains a priority. The game’s mechanics are being designed to accommodate newcomers while maintaining the layered strategic options that long-time players have come to expect.

Currently slated for release in 2026, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PC, though no specific release window within the year has been given. The closed beta will serve as the first real test of the game’s systems in a public setting and is expected to help the developers gather feedback on performance, balance, and user experience.
