Invites for the closed beta of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls are now being distributed, giving selected players their first opportunity to experience Arc System Works and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s upcoming Marvel fighting game. The test phase will run from September 6 at 1:00 PM JST until September 8 at 12:00 AM JST, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
The invitation email confirms that participation requires a PS5 console and membership in the PlayStation Beta Program. Players who receive an invitation must register to confirm their willingness to take part in the test. The notice also emphasizes confidentiality, reminding participants that access is subject to the terms of the Beta Program.
“SiE and Arc System Works have officially invited you to the MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls CLOSED BETA. We look forward to seeing you join the players soon,” the email states. Feedback from testers will play an important role in refining the experience before launch.
The beta itself offers a notable selection of content. Six playable characters will be available, including Captain America, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Storm, and Doctor Doom. Each fighter will feature a full command list for players to study. Stages will draw from iconic Marvel settings, with Marvel’s New York City providing three distinct battlegrounds: City Center, Avengers Park, and Hell’s Kitchen.
In addition to traditional battles, players will be able to explore a 64-player lobby featuring chibi-style Marvel avatars, take part in a CPU-guided Startup Battle to learn mechanics, and observe online matches through a spectator mode. A beginner’s guide video has also been prepared to help players understand the game’s unique tag team combat system.
First announced in June 2025, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls represents Sony’s renewed push into the fighting game space. The game features a dynamic tag system where matches begin with a single fighter and an assist character, eventually evolving into 4v4 team battles as players unlock more characters during combat. This structure blends accessibility for new players with enough complexity to satisfy competitive audiences.
The project originated from Sony’s collaboration with Marvel Games following the success of the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. With Arc System Works at the helm, known for their expertise in the fighting genre, the title aims to balance broad appeal with high-level depth. The roster will combine major Marvel icons with lesser-known characters that have rarely appeared in previous fighting adaptations.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is planned for release on PlayStation 5 and Windows in 2026.
