Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta Features 15 Playable Characters and Six Stages

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed new details about the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta, which will be available from July 24 to July 26 on PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The 72-hour beta begins on July 24 at 12:00am PT, 8:00am BST and 4:00pm JST, before ending on July 26 at 11:59pm PT. Players will be able to pre-download the beta two hours before it goes live. No registration or PlayStation Plus subscription is required, although an internet connection and an Account for PlayStation will be needed to access the beta on both PS5 and PC.

The Open Beta includes 15 of the game’s 20 launch characters, with Blade becoming playable for the first time. The roster features Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Storm, Magik, Wolverine, Danger, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker, Ghost Rider, Blade, Doctor Doom and Magneto.

Players will also be able to battle across six arenas inspired by iconic Marvel locations, including Marvel’s New York, Wakanda, the Savage Land, X-Mansion and Knowhere.

In addition to online play, the beta introduces several modes that were not available during last year’s closed testing. Players can compete in Casual and Ranked online matches, challenge friends locally in Versus Mode or face CPU opponents.

The Open Lobby also makes its debut, allowing players to explore miniature versions of the game’s stages while interacting with others using chat, preset messages, emotes and stamps. Players can customise one of 16 lobby avatars, each with four colour variants, before heading to arcade cabinets to challenge other competitors.

New players can learn the basics through Start Up Battle, an interactive tutorial covering the game’s 4v4 combat mechanics, while Training Mode offers extensive options for practising characters, combos and advanced techniques.

The Open Beta also provides the first chance to experience Episode Mode. Players can play through the opening three chapters of the Amazing Guardians storyline, following Spider-Man as he assembles a team to investigate a mysterious threat approaching Earth through motion-comic storytelling and battles.

Sony also confirmed that the Open Beta will include full localisation support, with voice-over and text available in multiple languages, alongside additional text-only language options. The company says the latest build also incorporates gameplay refinements and mechanical improvements based on feedback gathered during last year’s Closed Betas.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches on August 6 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
