Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will add Phoenix Cyclops on November 2 as the first DLC character included in the game’s Year 1 Pass. Arc System Works has also released a gameplay trailer detailing the fighter’s Optic Blast abilities and Dark Phoenix transformation.
Voiced by Ray Chase, Phoenix Cyclops combines Cyclops’ familiar Optic Blast attacks with the Phoenix Force. He is designed as an all-rounder capable of fighting at long range and in close quarters, with projectiles, rushing attacks, throws and fire-based attacks that can cover large portions of the screen.
Using Optic Blasts builds Phoenix Force energy known as Solar Shards. Collecting four Solar Shards allows Cyclops to transform into Dark Phoenix, providing a significant temporary increase in power at the cost of health depletion.
Arc System Works said it selected the Phoenix version of Cyclops to offer a different interpretation of a character who has appeared in numerous Marvel fighting games. His transformation and gameplay mechanics draw inspiration from the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline, where Cyclops becomes part of the Phoenix Five before eventually transforming into Dark Phoenix.
Phoenix Cyclops will launch alongside two additional costumes named Classic and Legacy, offering designs intended for players who prefer more traditional interpretations of the character.
Players attending EVO France from October 9 to 11 will have an opportunity to try Phoenix Cyclops before his release. A 3-hour Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Game Trial is also available to PlayStation Plus subscribers starting today, while the Ultimate Edition has received a discount as part of the game’s first PlayStation Store sale.
