Capcom’s crossover fighting game, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, has seen a resurgence on Steam following the release of the Beyond mod.
According to the concurrent player data for Capcom’s crossover fighting game on Steam (via), it has seen a new surge of activity after the launch of the new Beyond mod. The Steam (PC) mod was released on December 20, 2024, and since then the game has seen a notable increase in concurrent player count that went as high as 1,322 on December 21, 2024.
For those unaware, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite and Beyond is a large scale fan-made mod project for the crossover fighting game. It features brand new visuals, revamped gameplay and never-before-seen modes. The mod is only compatible with the Steam version of the game.
Beyond introduces three new offline-only multiplayer modes, each with unique gameplay styles. In terms of modes, Cross Frenzy offers a chaotic multiplayer experience that allow four players to face off (or two players to team up) in simultaneous 2v2 matches. Meanwhile, Single Cross Frenzy is designed for single-player fun, letting players control two characters at once with a single controller. It’s playable in both Story Mode and Arcade Mode. Lastly, Cross Fever is a fresh take on classic Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite gameplay, where each character is independently controlled by one player. These modes can be toggled on by pressing their respective keys in the main menu. To switch between modes or return to the default gameplay, players will need to exit and relaunch the game.
Furthermore, the visual mod and balance adjustments are fully functional in online matches. However, if a player faces an opponent who hasn’t applied the mod, the game will disconnect and return both players to the lobby. On the other hand, the newly introduced tag-team modes are only playable offline. Patch notes for Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite and Beyond can be found here.
