Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available on PC, and if you’re looking to find out how it compares with the existing PS5 Pro version, read ahead.
The PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 supports improved features over the PS5 Pro version, though they can be quite demanding and require high-end hardware. This includes graphical options for higher quality ray-traced reflections, ray-traced shadows, and ray-traced ambient occlusion. As a general rule, most PS5 Pro graphical settings are equivalent to high or very high settings on PC. The draw distance and RT BVH are better on PC’s highest setting. Additionally, Ray Reconstruction on modern NVIDIA GPUs does a good job of improving the quality of some reflections and far shadows.
However, not all areas of visuals favor the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. There are some assets that look sharper on PS5 Pro when viewed in reflections. Furthermore, key light shadows also favor the PS5 Pro version, especially in terms of far shadows. The PC version is also missing some texture detail, such as textures for the ground cracking when Spider-Man jumps from a high building.
In terms of image quality, the PS5 Pro runs Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at a dynamic 4K (2160p) in Fidelity Pro mode, which is then upscaled to 4K via PSSR. The PC version is able to run at native 4K and offers better image reconstruction via DLSS on NVIDIA GPUs.
With regards to performance, the PS5 Pro version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 targets a frame rate of 60 fps with VRR and 120 Hz output enabled in Fidelity Pro mode, though it generally averages at around 50 fps. On capable systems, the PC version can push further and run at higher frame rates. That said, the PC version currently suffers from random crashes no matter what hardware specs it runs on.
On the whole, the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 delivers some worthwhile graphical upgrades over the Sony’s mid-gen PS5 while also falling short in other areas. However, its technical issues currently make it tough to recommend over the PS5 Pro version.
