Marvel’s Wolverine Features And Combat Details Revealed

by Greg Martin

Insomniac Games has detailed the Marvel’s Wolverine features coming to the PlayStation 5 game ahead of its September 15, 2026 release. A new features trailer showcases Logan’s combat system, mutant abilities, customisation options, story details, additional modes and more.

Marvel’s Wolverine is built around fast and aggressive close-quarters combat. Logan can combine his claws with kicks, attacks and critical strikes, while players can unlock new Techniques and equip up to 4 rechargeable Special Techniques at a time.

These include abilities such as Tornado Spin, Knee Breaker and Spiral Strike. The game also features a range of Adaptations that can be used to customise Logan’s combat capabilities, with options that improve his ability to absorb bullets, enhance Rage, increase parry windows and otherwise change how he performs during fights.

Rage is another major part of Logan’s abilities. The system is divided into 3 tiers focused on survivability, resilience and fury, allowing players to either use it to survive difficult encounters or enter a more aggressive state and sustain the ability by killing enemies.

The game’s story will take Logan around the world as he confronts a threat to mutantkind. Bolivar Trask is pursuing his plans against mutants, leaving Logan and Jean Grey, alongside members of Team X, to stop him in a world where mutants are too few in number to establish safe havens or organised heroic groups.

Players will also encounter villains including Omega Red and Deathstrike during their journey. Away from the main encounters, Logan’s heightened senses can be used to locate Nightmare Doors, which offer combat and traversal challenges, while collectible whisky bottles reveal parts of his forgotten memories.

Material crates can also be discovered and used to craft additional suits. The game includes the original Battle Reborn suit created by Insomniac, alongside designs inspired by Weapon X, Old Man Logan, Ultimate Wolverine and Patch. Players can also dress Logan in more conventional outfits such as a tank top or leather jacket, with some cowls and hats able to be toggled on or off.

Suits can provide health upgrades, while different claw designs can also be acquired, including bone, notched, curved, reflective and angled claws.

Marvel’s Wolverine will offer several additional features through Logan’s Nightmare Cabin. New Game Plus includes exclusive Techniques and increased Level Caps, while Mission Replay allows players to revisit parts of the story. Nightmare Challenges are also available for players looking to compete for high scores, and Photo Mode will be added with a day one update.

Insomniac has also included more than 100 new, returning and improved accessibility features. These include High Contrast visuals, English Audio Description, Global Game Speed and Strong Haptic Signals.

Given Wolverine’s violent nature, players can also customise certain aspects of the game’s presentation. New violence and adult language settings allow players to adjust dynamic blood and dismemberment, as well as filter English-only adult language.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5. The game is currently available to wishlist and pre-order, with a Digital Deluxe Edition offering additional suits, claws and other bonuses.
