Capcom has announced that the top 20 finalists have been selected for the Mega Man: Dual Override Robot Master Design Contest, marking the start of the contest’s second round. Fans can now vote to determine which community-created Robot Master will be featured in the final version of the game, with voting open from January 30, 2026, through February 5 at 11:59 pm PST.
Mega Man: Dual Override is an action-platformer developed and published by Capcom and serves as the twelfth mainline installment in the classic Mega Man series. The title was officially revealed during The Game Awards 2025 and is positioned as a visual evolution of the style established in Mega Man 11. Alongside its refined presentation, the game introduces new gameplay mechanics, including visible battle damage on Mega Man’s chassis and a mysterious system referred to as “Dual,” which is implied by the game’s title.
To celebrate the franchise’s upcoming 40th anniversary, Mega Man: Dual Override is scheduled for release in 2027. The game is planned to launch on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox consoles, bringing the new entry to a wide range of platforms.
The Robot Master Design Contest was created as a community-focused initiative, inviting fans to submit original boss concepts for possible inclusion in the game. Participants were asked to design not only the visual appearance of a Robot Master but also to conceptualize the character’s theme, signature weapon, and attack patterns. This approach allows players to directly influence a portion of the game’s enemy roster, offering a rare opportunity to shape an official Mega Man release.
Following an initial judging phase, twenty designs have advanced to the finalist stage. Capcom has confirmed that these selected entries represent the strongest submissions from the first round and are now open for public voting. The winning design will ultimately appear as a boss character in Mega Man: Dual Override.
As an added incentive, Capcom has stated that those who participate in the voting process will receive free icons that can be used on social media. It is a small bonus, but one that encourages wider participation and visibility for the contest.
