Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Receives M18 Rating, Retains Original’s Sexual Content

Konami’s highly anticipated remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, has officially been rated M18 in Singapore by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). The classification cites intense depictions of violence as the primary reason for the mature rating, while also confirming that the game will retain certain sexual references, including the use of pin-up magazines that were part of the original release.

The IMDA report outlines the game’s Cold War narrative, which follows Naked Snake, an elite FOX operative, as he infiltrates Soviet territory to rescue defecting scientist Sokolov. After betrayal by his mentor and escalating conflict with Soviet forces, Snake must not only complete his mission but also confront The Boss, his former ally turned enemy. Gameplay is described as a mix of stealth and action, with players able to dispatch enemies through gunfire, stabbing, strangulation, explosives, or more unconventional methods such as feigning death with a pill or putting enemies to sleep with tranquilizers.

The agency’s description highlights the game’s violent content in particular detail. Scenes include repeated stabbing, throat-slashing, burning, and heavy bloodshed during combat sequences. Corpses and bloodstains are visible during exploration, and when the protagonist takes damage, the screen displays red flashes to emphasize his condition. Such elements fall under IMDA’s M18 guidelines, which allow for realistic portrayals of killing and maiming.

In addition to violence, IMDA noted the inclusion of sexual themes consistent with the original 2004 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. These include voluptuous female characters in revealing outfits, posters, and magazines scattered throughout the environment, as well as dialogue containing innuendo. For longtime fans, this detail confirms that the remake has preserved the quirks and tonal mix of humor and seriousness that defined Hideo Kojima’s original vision.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater marks Konami’s return to AAA console development following years focused on smaller-scale projects. Supervised by veterans Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado, with contributions from Singapore-based Virtuos, the game aims to remain faithful to the original’s story while modernizing visuals and mechanics.

Scheduled for release on August 28, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the remake is set to be the franchise’s first major new installment since 2018’s Metal Gear Survive. With the confirmation of its mature rating and faithful content, fans can expect a modernized yet authentic experience of one of gaming’s most celebrated titles.
