Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Surpasses 1 Million Sales in First Week

Konami has announced that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has already surpassed 1 million units sold worldwide as of August 28, counting both physical shipments and digital downloads. The milestone was reached on the very day of its release, highlighting strong demand for the long-awaited remake.

For comparison, the last major entry in the series, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, shipped over 6 million copies by December 2015, just a few months after its launch. While Delta’s early numbers are smaller, they signal a promising revival for a franchise that has remained dormant since 2018, when Metal Gear Survive was released to mixed reception.

Serving as a faithful remake of the 2004 classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Delta retains the narrative and gameplay foundations of the original while modernizing its visuals and mechanics. Set in 1964, the game follows Naked Snake as he attempts to rescue a Soviet scientist, dismantle the nuclear-equipped Shagohod, and confront his mentor, The Boss, against the tense backdrop of the Cold War.

The project was handled internally by Konami Digital Entertainment, with oversight from veterans Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado, and support from Virtuos. The choice to remake Snake Eater rather than another installment stemmed from its role as the chronological starting point of the franchise and the importance of its central characters to the larger narrative.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on August 28, 2025.
