Metal Gear Solid Developers Discuss Master Collection Volume 2, Future Remakes, and Ongoing Updates

During the Tokyo Game Show 2025, Konami held a new episode of the Metal Gear Production Hotline, giving fans a closer look at the franchise’s future. The session concluded with a Q&A segment where producer Noriaki Okamura addressed questions about Master Collection Volume 2, updates for Volume 1, and the possibility of future remakes, including Metal Gear Solid 1.

When asked about the long-awaited Master Collection Volume 2, Okamura acknowledged fans’ patience. “Since we called it Volume 1, there should naturally be a Volume 2 – that’s been the expectation for several years now,” he said. “We’re properly working on it while making Delta. I’ve said this many times – we’re making it. When the timing is right, we hope to communicate our future plans including this to everyone. Sorry for always saying this, but please wait a little longer.” He added that the team is continuing to support Master Collection Volume 1 but is now nearing the end of its update cycle.

The conversation then shifted toward future projects within the series. On the possibility of new entries or remakes, Okamura reflected on the challenges and responsibilities tied to Metal Gear’s legacy. “Metal Gear really represents gaming history – from pixel art to movie-like presentations. Whatever we remake or base new content on, the format will probably change completely each time,” he explained. Using Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater as an example, he noted that the project focused on preserving level design and story while enhancing graphics and controls. For other works, however, the approach might differ significantly.

Pressed on his personal wishes, Okamura admitted that he would love to see a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid. “Personally – and this is just fantasy with no promises – what I’d want to do is MGS1. I’d like to see it, though the difficulty would be maximum.” While no commitment was made, his remarks will undoubtedly fuel speculation among long-time fans.

Konami also confirmed that fan feedback will play a role in shaping future decisions. A new survey went live following the latest Hotline broadcast, running from September 25 to October 9, and it asked players which entry they would most like to see remade next. At this stage, the survey is limited to Japanese audiences.

The Metal Gear Production Hotline continues to serve as a direct communication channel between developers and fans. Past broadcasts have covered the development of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, while the newest episode highlights FOXHUNT, a narrative-driven multiplayer mode where cadets compete for entry into the FOX Unit.

For now, fans can take solace in knowing that Master Collection Volume 2 is in active development, while Konami continues to explore how best to revisit the franchise’s most iconic titles.
