The file size of Nintendo and Retro Studios’ upcoming action-adventure game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, has been revealed.
Fans have begun getting a hold of Japanese download cards for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond several days prior to its launch. Twitter/X user Genki_JPN has shared screenshots of the packaging, revealing the game’s file size. They also mentioned the tagline stated on the box – “Return from an unknown planet.”
As per the packaging of the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond download card, the game has a file size of 29 GB on the Nintendo Switch 2. In comparison, it is over four times the file size of Metroid Prime Remastered for the Nintendo Switch, which weighs in at 6.8 GB. This is expected, as the upcoming title is designed for the Switch hardware from the ground up, with more graphical detail and, therefore, a larger amount of data to store.
Meanwhile, according to deals tracking website Deku Deals, the Nintendo Switch version of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has a download size of 28.939 GB and the Nintendo Switch 2 version has a download size of 31.623 GB.
For the uninitiated, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond serves as the tenth main entry in the Metroid series. Players once again take on the role of Samus Aran as she investigates the planet Viewros, while facing threats such as the rival bounty hunter Sylux. As in earlier Metroid Prime entries, Samus can scan creatures and objects to gather information about her surroundings. Beyond adds new abilities, including psychic powers that let her manipulate devices and influence the trajectory of her attacks, as well as a motorcycle called the Vi-0-La. Members of the Galactic Federation also aid Samus during battles. On the Nintendo Switch 2, the Joy-Con 2 can be used like a mouse, providing a control scheme that offers greater precision.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set for release on December 4, 2025.
