The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Retro Studios’ upcoming action-adventure game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, has been revealed, and if you’re looking to know how it compares with the original Switch version, read ahead.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t a simple boost in resolution and frame rate over the original Switch version, as it also brings a slew of notable graphical enhancements. The more powerful console allows the action-adventure game to deliver improved level of detail, textures, lighting, shadows, ambient occlusion, and particle effects. This is very different situation from the one seen with the cross-gen release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, which only managed to run at a higher resolution on the Switch over the Wii U version.
As for image quality, the Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond doesn’t disappoint, offering a major improvement in resolution. In its Quality mode, the game runs at native 4K (2160p), while the resolution drops to 1080p in its Performance mode while docked. When playing on the handheld display, it runs at native 1080p in Quality mode and native 720p in Performance mode. Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch version runs at native 1080p when docked and native 720p on the handheld display.
In terms of performance, the Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond targets a frame rate of 60 fps in Quality mode and 120 fps in Performance mode both while docked or on the handheld display. Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch version targets a frame rate of 60 fps both while docked or on the handheld display.
All in all, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond offers a worthy upgrade over the original Nintendo Switch version, delivering the best possible way to play the game in its Performance mode on 120 Hz screens or the console’s handheld display.
