Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Receives ESRB Rating, Still Set for Late 2025 Release

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has now received an official ESRB rating, another sign of progress for the long-awaited entry in Nintendo’s iconic series. The game has been classified with a T rating for animated blood and violence, and this rating was recently added to its eShop page. While a final release date is still pending, the game has already been confirmed for a late 2025 launch.

This development follows Nintendo’s recent confirmation that Metroid Prime 4 will be playable for the first time at Gamescom and Fan Expo Canada later this year. The opportunity to experience the game firsthand represents a significant milestone, as it moves from years of speculation into a tangible release pipeline. The ESRB rating adds to the growing evidence that Nintendo is preparing a large-scale promotional rollout, supported by hands-on previews and its newly expanded presence at fan conventions.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is being developed by Retro Studios and is planned for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game continues the story of Samus Aran, who will explore the planet Viewros while wielding new psychic abilities. Nintendo has indicated that the game aims to preserve the core DNA of the Metroid Prime series while introducing new systems to evolve its formula for modern audiences.

The game’s development has been unusually protracted, beginning with its announcement in 2017 under Bandai Namco Studios before being restarted in 2019 with Retro Studios taking over. Despite the setbacks, the updated title and trailer revealed in June 2024 reignited excitement among fans, and the current combination of event demos and ratings classification suggests that the title is firmly on track for its scheduled release.
