Retro Studios’ action-adventure game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, has received a steep discount at retailers in Japan only 3months after release.

According to a report from Twitter/X user DJmizuhara (via Genki_JPN), Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has received a steep discount at Japanese retailers just 3 months after launch. As correctly pointed out by the source, this is very unusual for a Nintendo first-party title. It appears that the Metroid Prime series isn’t particularly popular in the country.

Metroid Prime 4 Japanese Retail Discount Detailed

Based on the image shared by the Twitter/X user, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been discounted to 4,948 Yen (4,499 excluding tax) at a local retailer, likely GEO. Its original MSRP in Japan is 10,290 Yen, as listed on Japanzon. This converts to a steep discount of around 52%. As pointed out earlier, it’s highly unusual for a Nintendo published game to receive a major discount soon after release.

With regards to global sales, Nintendo confirmed in February that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond sales surpassed 1 million copies across Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The clarification followed questions regarding the game’s absence from Nintendo’s million-seller list for the period ending December 31, 2025. The confirmation was shared by journalist Stephen Totilo on Twitter/X. He wrote, “Following some consternation about neither the Switch nor Switch 2 versions of Metroid Prime 4 (Dec. 4) making Nintendo’s million-seller list for the period ending Dec 31, a Nintendo rep told to me today that combined sales of those 2 versions have in fact passed a million copies.” The statement indicates that while individual platform breakdowns were not listed, the total across both systems has crossed the milestone.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is an action-adventure first-person game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo. It was released on December 4, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Protagonist Samus Aran explores the uncharted planet Viewros while confronting her long-standing rival, Sylux.
