Microsoft Banned Jeffrey Epstein from Xbox Live in 2013

Microsoft permanently suspended Jeffrey Epstein’s Xbox Live account in December 2013 as part of a broader initiative tied to the New York Attorney General’s partnership with major gaming companies, according to information shared by journalist Tom Warren. The enforcement action removed Epstein from the online service more than a decade ago, citing both policy violations and participation in a statewide effort to block registered sex offenders from online gaming platforms.

Tom Warren stated on X, “Microsoft banned Jeffrey Epstein from Xbox Live in 2013 for ‘harassment, threats, and/or abuse of other players’ that was ‘severe, repeated, and/or excessive.'” He added that the action was connected to state-level policy, writing, “the ban was related to the policy of the New York Attorney General’s partnership with Microsoft and other gaming companies to remove New York registered sex offenders from online gaming services.”

An internal Microsoft email dated December 19, 2013, confirms the permanent suspension. The message reads, “This message is to notify you that Xbox LIVE has permanently suspended the Xbox LIVE account associated with this email address. This action is based on the New York Attorney General’s partnership with Microsoft and other online gaming companies to remove New York registered sex offenders from online gaming services to minimize the risk to others, particularly children.”

The same email explains the scope of the enforcement, stating, “As a result, any Xbox LIVE account associated with this email address will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.” It also notes that refunds would be issued for remaining subscription time or unused Microsoft Points within 30 days.

Microsoft’s enforcement team indicated that the decision followed a review of complaints and evidence, stating, “The Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement Team has reviewed the complaints and other evidence regarding this conduct and determined it violates the Xbox Live Terms of Use and/or Code of Conduct.”
