Microsoft Execs Were Reportedly “Blown Away” By Cancelled Zenimax Online Studios MMORPG/Looter Shooter

Microsoft executives were “blown away” by the now cancelled MMORPG/Looter Shooter from Zenimax Online Studios, according to a new report.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier took to the gaming enthusiast Reset Era forums to corroborate insider SneakersSO’s earlier comment on the cancelled Zenimax Online Studios MMORPG/Looter Shooter. The latter claimed that it was “fucking incredible”, and that it had received some of the best reactions from playtesters for a multiplayer-focused game in years. Though, according to Schreier, it wasn’t just playtesters who came away impressed by the now cancelled title.

Schreier mentioned that the general public may have said “not another looter shooter” upon seeing the cancelled game in action. However, he added that it wasn’t just QA testers who came away impressed, and that Microsoft executives themselves were blown away by it. He clarified that this isn’t a project like Perfect Dark or Everwild, where it was in development hell.

SneakersSO called it one of those situations where a publicly-known game get cancelled, and there’s a general impression among the fan base that it would’ve have turned out great along with finger-pointing toward executives who just didn’t “get it”. As per their sources, the cancelled Zenimax Online Studios MMORPG is one such game.

However, with Schreier reporting that even Microsoft executives were onboard with it, it leaves a big question mark on the title’s cancellation. He’ll have more to share on the game sometime soon. Until then, we can only guess that Microsoft is perhaps limiting its focus to existing money making franchises like Call of Duty and Minecraft.

Microsoft recently began a sweeping round of layoffs affecting its gaming division, including Xbox studios, with early reports suggesting that multiple projects have already been canceled as a result. The layoffs, formally communicated to employees on Wednesday, have fueled industry speculation and concern regarding the future of several in-development titles.
