Microsoft has announced that it has re-evaluated its prior pricing of The Outer Worlds 2. The game will now retail for 69.99 US Dollars.

The official Twitter/X account for The Outer Worlds 2 has revealed that developer Obsidian Entertainment has worked with Microsoft to revise the pricing of The Outer Worlds 2. The post acknowledged the negative feedback from fans, due to which the decision has been made to drop the game’s price from 79.99 to 69.99 US Dollars. The latter was the standard standard price for Microsoft’s first-party titles before the company made the decision to increase it by 10 US Dollars, following Nintendo’s 79.99 US Dollar pricing of Mario Kart World.

Furthermore, in a statement to Windows Central, an Xbox spokesperson confirmed that the revised pricing isn’t just limited to The Outer Worlds 2. All full priced holiday releases will return to the prior 69.99 pricing. The full statement can be seen below.

We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions.

Back in May, Microsoft announced a global price increase for new first-party Xbox games to 79.99 US Dollars starting from the 2025 holiday season. According to the company, these changes were a part of effort to tackle rising development costs and evolving market conditions. Ironically, Microsoft has cited the same market conditions for the return to its original pricing. The wording is rather specific, however, implying that Microsoft may reintroduce the price hike by or before next year’s holiday season. For now, the backlash from potential customers seems to have convinced the software giant that the pricing of its first-party titles needs to stay where it is.

The Xbox spokesperson’s statement suggests that the pricing of Activision’s upcoming first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, will no longer receive a price hike. The game has yet to receive an official price tag, but it’s safe to assume that the game’s standard edition will retail for 69.99.
