Microsoft is currently working to bring legacy Xbox and Xbox 360 games to ROG Xbox Ally and Windows PC, based on a new report.

Known insider NateDrake, also known as Nate the Hate, took to the Reset Era forums to respond to a fellow member, who hopes to see backwards compatibility on the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally handhelds as well as Windows PC. This hope came after a recent interview with Jason Ronald, Vice President of Next-Gen Xbox Gaming Devices and Ecosystem, who said that the company wants to celebrate the legacy and the history of the platform on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

In his response, Nate said that Microsoft is currently putting effort into making legacy Xbox, including the original console and Xbox 360, games available on the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally handhelds and Windows PC via backwards compatibility. Whether they succeed is not known at this point in time, but an attempt is reportedly being made. He added that the other unknown would be how extensive the initiative will end up being in the catalog of titles that will be offered. As of writing, he has no information on whether it will it be based on the legacy titles currently available on Xbox Series X|S or if the new backwards compatibility initiative expand to add more titles across the Xbox ecosystem.

Back in June, Kinda Funny XCast co-host Parris took to the Reset Era forums to respond to a fellow member who said that they’d continue to not use the Xbox app unless required, and would only be interested in using it if Xbox backwards compatibility is brought over to PC. The content creator responded with a smile, suggesting that they are in the know about the feature being planned for PC.

Earlier, Xbox president Sarah Bond announced that Microsoft is looking to deliver a next-gen console that isn’t tied to a single store or device, and fully compatible with the existing Xbox game library. According to her, this initiative is all about building players a gaming platform that’s always with them, so they can play the games they want across devices anywhere they want. In this regard, the Xbox team is working closely with the Windows team in order to ensure that the operating system is best suited for gaming.
