IO Interactive and Build a Rocket Boy’s upcoming action-adventure game, MindsEye, is set for long-term storytelling across a period of 10 years.
During a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz, director Leslie Benzies was asked to share his vision for the upcoming action-adventure game’s launch and future. In response, he reveled that MindsEye is set for long-term storytelling across a period of 10 years and that he plans to turn it into a full open world game at some point in the future.

According to Benzies, MindsEye is one story in an epic universe. He mentioned that he other stories take place at different time periods, and at different locations in the universe. This is Jacob Diaz’s story, but there are also other stories within MindsEye. As such, developer Build a Rocket Boy tells the backstories of other characters Jacob will meet. The studio plans on filling out the universe over time in this manner, so when the player travels around, all the stories will be connected by one overarching theme, and each story will have different mechanics.
As for post-launch support, the MindsEye director stated that Build a Rocket Boy will support the game through a continuous stream of new content. Some of the content, like races, are made just for fun. But with most of the content, the studio will try and incorporate it into the story. According to him, once players has experienced the big overarching 10-year plan, they’ll have a very good idea of what MindsEye’s universe looks like. The developer also plans to add multiplayer, and turn the game into a full open world experience.
Furthermore, Benzies talked about MindsEye’s creation tools, saying that all of the game’s mechanics will be available to players to for their own creations. He claimed that they are easy to use, which he hopes will empower the community to create compelling content that can then be used as a part of the developer’s long-term plans.
