A Modder Has Added Path Tracing To GTA IV On PC

by Muhammad Ali Bari

A modder has created an RTX Remix mod that adds path tracing to the PC version of Rockstar Games’ open world action game, GTA IV.

The mod is currently available under developer xoxor4d’s Pateron subscription (via Twitter/X user videotechuk_ ). It’s worth noting, however, that the mod is still in a state of ongoing development, so those who plan on supporting it should expect that they may encounter potential issues.

As for the possibility of an official GTA IV remaster, in May, 2025, known Rockstar Games insider Tez2 claimed that someone at the studio had hinted to him about it being under development. Based on his estimate, at the time, it should have been in the works for around a year. According to the insider, we may end up seeing GTA IV remastered receive an official announcement at some point in the future. He also believes that this is one of the reasons why the LCPP mod for the PC version of GTA IV was taken down. He added that if Rockstar Games still follows its plan laid out from the days of the pandemic, it will also release a remastered version of Max Payne 3 after the GTA IV remaster.

Earlier in July, 2022, the same insider claimed that a remaster for both GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption was on the table a few years ago, but the publisher had decided to pull the plug on both projects. He cited Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition’s poor reception from the media and gaming community as a possible reason behind the cancellation. However, Red Dead Redemption did end up receiving a remastered release. The same may eventually be true for GTA IV.

GTA IV was originally released on April 29, 2008, for PS3 and Xbox 360, followed by a PC release on December 2, 2008.
