A new technical comparison of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection has revealed how the game performs across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting notable differences in display modes and performance.
According to the analysis, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S versions both feature three graphical options. These include performance, balanced, and quality style configurations that adjust resolution, frame rate targets, and visual settings.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version, however, offers only a single display mode. Despite this limitation, the configuration appears to use settings similar to the balanced mode seen on other platforms.
The performance mode on consoles introduces the most noticeable visual compromises. In this setting, shadow quality and draw distance are significantly reduced in order to prioritize frame rate. Balanced mode, meanwhile, provides a middle ground between visual fidelity and performance.
PlayStation 5 reportedly delivers the most consistent results among the tested platforms. The system maintains frame rates above its targets across all display modes and can occasionally reach 60 fps in balanced mode, which the analysis describes as the most recommended configuration.
The Xbox Series S version performs surprisingly close to the PS5 in terms of graphical settings. However, the console struggles more with maintaining stable performance, resulting in occasional drops below the intended frame rate targets.
Switch 2 sits between the two platforms in terms of overall results. When played in docked mode, the system runs with settings similar to the balanced preset and demonstrates greater stability than the Xbox Series S version in several scenarios. In portable mode, however, frame rates can dip below 30 fps more frequently.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is scheduled to launch on March 13, 2026. The game takes place 200 years after the previous entries in the spin-off series and introduces a darker narrative centered around a phenomenon known as the Crystal Encroachment.
Players take on the role of an experienced Rider investigating the mysterious corruption affecting monsters and the surrounding world. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC through Steam. A free trial version is currently available, allowing players to experience the opening chapters and carry progress over to the full release.
