Monster Hunter Wilds Allegedly Lacks Performance Mode on PS5, Devs Testing PS5 Pro Support

Monster Hunter Wilds is shaping up to be a demanding title based on its system requirements for PC, and it seems even consoles like the PS5 might face challenges running the game smoothly.

According to reports from the ongoing Tokyo Game Show 2024, Monster Hunter Wilds is experiencing performance issues on the PS5. This echoes similar problems faced by Dragon’s Dogma 2, which also struggled to maintain consistent performance on the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X. The game was particularly demanding on PC, where it struggled to hit a solid 60 FPS, even on high-end hardware.

Monster Hunter Wilds is built on Capcom’s RE Engine, the same engine used for Dragon’s Dogma 2, and early previews indicate that performance might be an issue. Reports suggest the game ran at 30 FPS on the PS5, with no performance mode available. A content creator who played the demo shared their experience: “PS5 is running at 30 FPS, the demo doesn’t have performance mode. The game stutters during intensive FX scenes, the texture quality is underwhelming, some rocks completely miss textures. Frame rate is rather low during combat.”

There was also speculation that the game would run at an uncapped 30 FPS on PC and PS5 Pro, but this appears to be inaccurate. When asked about the PS5 Pro compatibility, the game’s producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, clarified: “To be honest, we are still in the process of evaluating compatibility with the PS5 Pro, so we are not in a position to provide any clear information at this time. We will make an announcement once we have something to share, so please stay tuned for further updates.”

Capcom has also released the system requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam, noting that achieving 60 FPS will require frame generation to be enabled, even with the recommended hardware.
