Player engagement stats indicate that PC is home to by far the largest player base for Capcom’s new action role-playing game, Monster Hunter Wilds, in the US.
Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana (NPD), took to Blue Sky to share US player engagement stats for the week ending on March 8, 2025. As per the company’s platform-specific rankings, Monster Hunter Wilds enjoys the highest leads the way on PC with the highest total weekly active users, while the game’s console versions barely have any presence.

As seen in the charts above, the PS5 version of Monster Hunter Wilds barely managed to get the #12 spot after being outside of the top 15 in the prior week. Meanwhile, the game failed to make it into the top 15 Xbox Series X|S charts, indicating weak overall engagement on consoles. On the other hand, the PC version took the top spot after being at #2 in the previous week.
The console player engagement charts are dominated by Call of Duty, Fortnite, GTA V, and sports titles. Dragon Age: The Veilguard jumped to the #9 spot in the week ending on March 8, 2025, on the PlayStation chart after it was made available as a PS Plus monthly title. This in somewhat contrast to TrueTrophies‘ tracking of over 3.4 million active PlayStation Network accounts, according to which the game was at the #15 spot during the same week.
Recently, Piscatella had reported that Monster Hunter Wilds ranked #1 in weekly Dollar sales across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S during its launch week, with PC being the best-selling platform. It’s not particularly surprising to see the PC version take the lead in terms of sales and player engagement, considering how it was also the lead platform for sales of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. A significant chunk of the series’ player base exists on the platform. Additionally, co-op games are known to sell better on PC than their console counterparts. A recent example is Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arrowhead Game Studios’ third-person shooter, Helldivers 2.
