Monster Hunter Wilds seems to run at an uncapped frame rate on the PlayStation 5, at least based on the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) gameplay demo presented today.
Capcom held a stage presentation for Monster Hunter Wilds, where they showcased gameplay footage from the latest build. The demo was confirmed by the English community manager to be running on the standard PS5. However, this has raised concerns among fans about potential performance issues on both the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
Currently, there are no plans for specific PS5 Pro support, but Capcom has stated they are considering it. Both Monster Hunter: World and its successor, Monster Hunter Rise, ran at an uncapped frame rate on consoles, generally maintaining close to 60 FPS. However, Monster Hunter Wilds seems more demanding, using the same engine as Dragon’s Dogma 2, but without ray-tracing effects. This, combined with its high PC hardware requirements, has led fans to worry about how well the game will perform on base PS5 and Xbox Series S|X consoles.
The new stage demo shows smooth performance on the PS5 version, though the frame rate appears to be uncapped. While it may not consistently hit 60 FPS, it’s possible to have a good experience on a display that supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Since Capcom is still experimenting with PS5 Pro optimization, there is a chance the game could run at a stable 60 FPS on that hardware.
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled to launch on February 28, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
