Mortal Kombat 1 Surpasses 8 Million Units Sold Worldwide

Mortal Kombat 1 has officially surpassed 8 million units sold worldwide, marking a significant commercial milestone for NetherRealm Studios. The announcement was shared through the game’s official social media account.

In its message, the studio stated, “8 million units sold and kounting! Thank you to the Mortal Kombat Kommunity for your support!” The update confirms the continued momentum of the title more than two years after its initial release.

Originally launched on September 19, 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The game has maintained strong sales performance, positioning itself ahead of key competitors such as Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 in the current generation fighting game market.

Recent sales growth is believed to be driven by the release of the Definitive Edition alongside promotional pricing, helping extend the game’s lifecycle. Despite this success, the title has not matched the pace of Mortal Kombat 11, which achieved higher sales within a similar timeframe.

NetherRealm Studios previously confirmed that active DLC support concluded following the release of the Khaos Reigns expansion, which introduced additional fighters including Ghostface, T-1000, and Noob Saibot. Although post-launch content has concluded, the latest sales milestone highlights the game’s ongoing popularity among players.
