Bandai Namco Entertainment is considering working on a remastered version of its 2011 fighting game, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, for modern platforms.
During a Q&A session at a panel at Comic Con Bahrain 2025, Tekken series director/producer Katsuhiro Harada was asked whether Bandai Namco Entertainment will ever consider re-releasing Tekken Tag Tournament 1 or 2. In response, he acknowledged that the development team is indeed thinking about it and discussing it with the company, and that there is a possibility that a remastered version of either game will see the light of day at some point in the future.

Furthermore, Harada was asked about the lack of game modes in Tekken 8. He cited low demand from players and development hurdles as the reasons behind limited game modes being available in the fighting game.
The possibility of a remastered version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 with improved visuals and an online mode with rollback netcode would certainly appeal to the Tekken community, especially given its reception of Tekken 8’s Season 2. The second season launched with drastic system-wide changes, including increased combo damage, powerful plus-frame homing moves, chip damage on throws, and increased chip damage on Heat actions. These additions created situations where offense overwhelmed defense, matches became shorter, and combos started to feel very similar across characters. Bandai Namco responded with an emergency patch that attempted to reel things back in.
Despite some positive changes, the patch only scratched the surface. As Tekken pro players noted, Heat Burst tracking and range are still higher than ideal, Heat Smash moves are still heavily plus on block and trigger both stage gimmicks and wall splat, spike combos are still prevalent, and wall stagger still happens on hit for moves that are +10 or more on block. Additionally, others in the community are critical of homing moves that are plus on block, combos that last for up to half a minute, and tools given to several characters that nullify their traditional weaknesses.
