The unreleased third-person co-op action game, Project Draconis, which was once in development at Deviation Games, has surfaced again in the form of newly released gameplay footage. The footage was posted by leaker Dusk Golem, who said he had over an hour of material but chose to share only about ten minutes after confirming that the project was completely canceled and would not be re-emerging in another form. His choice comes after Deviation Games closed down earlier this year, formally ending development on the Sony-funded title.
Dusk Golem explained that the game had been publicly nicknamed “Ooze,” a title based on its enemy designs and used to hide its actual internal codename during active development. In his own words: “Ooze cancelled game, actual working title was Draconis, the game by the now closed down Deviation Games. Had about an hour of footage of this thing, sharing about 10 minutes now that I know for sure it’s not turned into something else and is just a full-on cancelled game. Which sucks since I actually was looking forward to it.” He further clarified that he posted the footage to make sure it wouldn’t spoil any future announcements from developers now working under Dark Outlaw, stating the footage should be seen as “What could’ve been” since it is nearly four years old and no longer represents any active project.
The footage, which was split into two separate videos, shows early gameplay in Unreal Engine 5. It features a main character in a futuristic combat suit moving through environments that have been taken over by alien-like organic structures. Based on earlier reports, Project Draconis was meant to be a story-focused co-op action game for PlayStation 5 and PC with a reported budget of over $50 million. Even though Sony never officially showed the title to the public, it had been in development for several years as one of Deviation Games’ main projects before the studio was shut down in early 2025.
Deviation Games has confirmed the closure of its development efforts, firmly establishing Project Draconis as officially canceled. While some ideas from the original project may influence Dark Outlaw’s future endeavors, Dusk Golem noted that the material he shared does not resemble anything currently being developed. For fans, the released footage offers a rare look at an ambitious concept that ultimately did not reach completion.
