A new God of War title set featuring a side-story that is set in the Greek mythology is allegedly set for release later this year.
Known industry insider and content creator Jeff Grubb took to Blue Sky to share that that a Greek God of War title will be seeing the light of day this year in 2025. He further said that it’s not a remastered collection of the original trilogy, and is instead a new side-story project.

Reflecting on his earlier comment on God of War remaster rumors, Grubb clarified that he was never told about a remastered collection. Upon inquiring about it from one of his sources, he was told that something God of War-related would happen on the occasion of the franchise’s anniversary rather than at a the State of Play.
The aforementioned Greek side-story is likely the one hinted at by Tom Henderson during a recent Insider Gaming Weekly podcast. He addressed an earlier rumor about the next God of War game potentially being set in Egypt, mentioning that he had received a tip from a source that claimed the prior leak was inaccurate, and that the next God of War title is actually set in Greece.
Henderson’s source further mentioned that, in addition to being set in Greece, the next God of War game will feature a younger version of Kratos. It was also said that the storyline will involve the protagonist’s relationship with his father, Zeus. This seems to suggest that it is a prequel of some sort, but it’s tough to say without any further details. The podcast co-host also brought up the earlier rumor about a remastered version of the original God of War trilogy being in development. He speculated that the latter may be a way to get new fans up to speed on the series’ backstory in order to prepare them for the upcoming prequel.
