A new report gives further credibility to a prior rumor regarding an upcoming PlayStation State of Play presentation taking place in May, 2026.
Twitter/X user millieamand, who works within the Entertainment and Sports Industry, has reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment has initiated partner outreach discussions with a select group of publishing and development stakeholders to evaluate content readiness and availability for a potential PlayStation State of Play broadcast, currently being scoped for late Spring/early Summer window, corroborating an earlier rumor that claimed a presentation is planned for May, 2026.
For the uninitiated, the prior rumor came from known insider shinobi602, who took to the Reset Era forums last month to respond to a fellow member who had asked him whether the upcoming God of War trilogy remake is the same project God of War (2018) director Cory Barlog is rumored to be working on. According to the insider, they’re two different games. The insider mentioned that, given the quarter Santa Monica Studio is targeting for the unannounced title helmed by Cory Barlog, he believes it will be announced this year. He expects it to be revealed at either the May, 2026, State of Play presentation or Summer Games Fest 2026. If the game doesn’t get announced by then, it will likely be because the development team pushed the release out further or ended up making the reveal-to-release window shorter.
The previous State of Play presentation took place on February 12, 2026. The broadcast ran for more than 60 minutes, featuring a wide range of announcements and updates from developers around the world, including a mix of third-party and indie titles set to be released on PlayStation 5, alongside new information from teams within PlayStation Studios.
State of Play is PlayStation’s regular digital event format, used to share news and updates about upcoming games and hardware across its ecosystem.
