While this sequel is marketed as a space-faring adventure inspired by the Super Mario Galaxy games, the picture hints at a major reference to the Sand Kingdom, one of the most recognizable spots in Odyssey. The poster mixes classic Mario symbols with art inspired by Mexican culture, making it one of the most unique promotional images released for the film so far.
The picture shows Mario and Luigi standing in a colorful desert town, both wearing ponchos and large sombreros over their regular clothes.
