New World Aeternum to Shut Down in January 2027

by Greg Martin

Amazon Games has confirmed the long-term future of New World Aeternum, announcing that the online role-playing game will be delisted later this month and fully shutdown in January 2027. The update follows an earlier statement that no additional content would be released after the Nighthaven seasonal update, bringing clarity to what players can expect over the game’s final year of operation.

According to the announcement, New World Aeternum will be delisted on January 15, 2026, making it unavailable for new purchases across all platforms. However, players who already own the game will retain full access and will be able to continue playing until the servers are permanently shut down on January 31, 2027. During this period, the current Nighthaven season will be extended and remain active until the game goes offline.

Amazon Games stated that while no new content or further server merges are planned, the development team will continue monitoring performance and addressing bugs to ensure the game remains stable throughout its remaining lifespan. Ongoing in-game activities such as world bosses and bonus weeks, will also continue to run until the servers are shut down.

The publisher also outlined changes to in-game purchases. Beginning July 20, 2026, players will no longer be able to buy Marks of Fortune or any other in-game items. Refunds for previously purchased currency will not be offered. Players who have already purchased New World Aeternum will still be able to download and reinstall the game, even after it has been delisted, though new purchases will no longer be possible.

For players who recently bought the game and are seeking refunds, Amazon Games advised contacting the customer support teams of the respective platforms where the purchase was made, as refund eligibility will depend on platform-specific policies.

In its message to the community, the studio expressed gratitude to players for their time and dedication, reflecting on the shared experience of building and exploring the world of Aeternum together. While acknowledging the disappointment surrounding the game’s sunset, Amazon Games described the final year as an opportunity to give the adventure a proper sendoff.

With servers remaining live for another year, New World Aeternum will continue to operate in a maintenance phase through early 2027, allowing its remaining player base to revisit the world, participate in events, and conclude their journeys before the game officially comes to an end.
