The next gen Xbox console will be sold at a profit rather than being subsidized like traditional consoles, with an expected price that may exceed 1000 US Dollars, according to a new rumor.

Hardware insider Kepler_L2 took to Twitter/X to comment on Microsoft’s recent announcement regarding its strategic, multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer silicon for its next gen Xbox console, hinting at its potential price range. As per them, unlike prior Xbox console generations, the upcoming hardware will not be sold at a loss or even a break-even price point.

According to Kepler_L2, Microsoft’s decision to allow multiple stores on its next gen Xhox console will result in lower margins for the company. As such, it will have no choice but to sell its next hardware at a profit. They cautioned that potential buyers ought to prepare themselves for the first ever console that exceeds even the 1000 US Dollar price point.

A price tag of over 1000 US Dollars would put the next gen Xbox close to the price range of a reasonably spec-ed gaming PC. Microsoft will undoubtedly need to offer more than just a console that runs digital stores like Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG in addition to its own in order to entice its current console user base to continue playing on its platform.

With the next Xbox hardware, Microsoft aims to deliver deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-powered experiences, grounded in a platform that is fully compatible with the existing Xbox game library. According to Xbox president Sarah Bond, this initiative is all about building players a gaming platform that’s always with them, so they can play the games they want across devices anywhere they want. In this regard, the Xbox team is working closely with the Windows team in order to ensure that the operating system is best suited for gaming.
