The next entry in the Halo franchise is in development in-house at 343 Industries, contrary to earlier reports.
According to a job listing (via) for the position of Senior Sound Designer at 343 Industries, the next Halo title is being developed in-house alongside support studios. This is in contrast to earlier reports that suggested the project would largely be outsourced.
As per the listing, the new recruit will be responsible for creating and leading sound design for in-house and outsourced content for the next Halo title, ensuring consistency and quality across all audio assets. They will also be responsible for leading and guiding outsourcing partners, providing clear direction and feedback to align with the game’s audio vision. This suggests that a major portion of the project is being handled in-house by 343 Industries.
Prior reports had suggested that 343 Industries would focus on the concept and pre-production phases for upcoming projects, including “Lore checks,” while the actual production would be handled by other studios under its supervision, similar to the arrangement with Creative Assembly for Halo Wars 2. The report claimed that two major Halo projects are in the works. One is likely a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved and the other is the next mainline Halo entry, both of which are in the pre-production phase, with the earliest release expected in 2026. One of these projects, likely Halo 7, was said to feature a much larger multiplayer component, potentially incorporating the “Tatanka” multiplayer project for over 100 players that was originally planned for Halo Infinite.
