Next Nintendo Direct May Happen During Switch 2 Launch Week

The next Nintendo Direct is set to happen during the upcoming Switch 2 launch week, according to a new rumor.

Content creator and former Reset Era moderator PH Brazil mentioned during a recent live stream that Nintendo will hold a Direct presentation during the Switch 2 launch week or the week after. The console maker is known for hosting a presentation during the ‘E3’ season in June, and it’s highly likely that it will have a presentation this year as well, even more so to promote the launch of Switch 2.

Nintendo undoubtedly has more first-party games to reveal in the weeks to come, such as possibly a new 3D Mario title. In a recent interview with CNN, conducted just before Nintendo’s decision to delay pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser was questioned about the absence of a new mainline Mario game in the Switch 2 Direct presentation. Bowser simply responded with, “Stay tuned. You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform.”

Bowser’s remarks suggest that a new 3D Mario game could be on the horizon, possibly releasing by the end of 2025. Nintendo is expected to prepare a strong holiday lineup of games for the new console. For context, the original Nintendo Switch debuted in March 2017, followed by the release of Super Mario Odyssey on October 27, 2017. A similar timeline could occur for the next mainline Mario title on the Nintendo Switch 2.

A few details about the upcoming Mario game appear certain: it will not be released as a cross-generation title, and it will be exclusive to the Switch 2. Additionally, the game will be priced higher than the standard: $80 / €80 for the digital version and $90 / €90 for the retail version, as opposed to the usual $70 / €70 digitally and $80 / €80 physically.
