Nine Games Scheduled to Leave PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on December 16

by Salal Awan

Sony is preparing to remove a new batch of titles from its PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium libraries on December 16, affecting users across all supported PlayStation platforms. The upcoming rotation includes nine games spanning major franchises, virtual reality experiences, open world adventures, and long running strategy titles. These removals form part of the service’s regular catalog updates, which routinely cycle out previously available games as licensing agreements expire or renewal terms change. Subscribers in the Extra and Premium tiers will have access to these titles until they are withdrawn next month.

The selection includes a range of genres and release eras. Battlefield 2042 remains the most prominent multiplayer entry on the list, and it is available on both PS4 and PS5. Other console titles set to leave include Forspoken, Grand Theft Auto III, Sonic Frontiers, Firefighting Simulator – The Squad, and Surviving Mars. PlayStation VR and PlayStation VR2 users are also affected, with Star Trek Bridge Crew, Arcade Paradise VR, and Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge preparing to exit.

Below is the full list of games leaving PlayStation Plus on December 16.

  • Battlefield 2042 – PS4 and PS5
  • Firefighting Simulator – The Squad – PS4 and PS5
  • Forspoken – PS5
  • Grand Theft Auto III – PS4 and PS5
  • Sonic Frontiers – PS4 and PS5
  • Star Trek Bridge Crew – PS4 and PSVR
  • Surviving Mars – PS4
  • Arcade Paradise VR – PSVR2
  • Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – PSVR2

These removals affect the mid-tier Extra catalog and the upper-tier Premium and Deluxe offerings, depending on the game. Both of these subscription levels build on the base Essential tier, which provides access to online multiplayer, cloud saves, and monthly downloadable titles. Extra expands the service with a rotating library of several hundred downloadable games, while Premium adds a classics selection and cloud streaming options. As the date approaches, subscribers who wish to finish any of the departing titles may want to prioritize them before they are taken off the catalog.

Sony has not announced replacement titles for the December lineup yet, but new additions are typically confirmed shortly before the rotation begins. Subscribers can expect further updates as PlayStation prepares its final catalog refresh of the year.
